VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A native of Hampton Roads won the #haveanikesbday contest with a Virginia Beach-themed shoe design.
Nike SB News and Information announced Friday on Instagram this Salem High School graduate and Coast Guard member Kenny Jones had won the competition.
Jones’ beach design was chosen by a committee of voters, which ranked each of the top five shoe models.
Jones’ design uses the color scheme from the famous “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” painting, with varying shades of blue to represent water and a beige outsole for the sand. It also includes the Oceanfront’s infamous “no curse” signs, a trident for King Neptune, and musical symbols to pay homage to the city’s musical legends.
âEverything about King Neptune is awesome,â Jones recently told 10 On Your Side. âSo the trident is the coolest part for me. You know the musical note, because you know the music legends, we have music legends that are iconic for any place, but they all come from that place, which makes it insane. Like Timbaland, Clipse, Pusha T, they all went to the same high school as me.
The winner of the competition will receive a copy of their shoe design.
The personalized shoe will be available to the public for purchase. Details on how the winning design will be sold will be announced later, according to the Instagram post.
The contest is not affiliated with Nike or the Nike SB, a popular skate shoe.
Nike SB News and Info also promised they have “another surprise up our sleeves so stay tuned”.
